I'm playing a game on the iPad called Airport Tycoon when I'm commuting, and this eventually led me into looking at the current Russian airliners offering.
Pictured above is a Tupolev Tu-204, it's a modern narrow-body similar to a 757 with a modern glass-cockpit and equally modern (and Western) Rolls-Royce engines.
The thing is, since its launch in 1989, Tupolev never made more than 10 in a year, with an average of about 2 a year (some years they made zero of them)
Out of the 41 in service, 16 are stored and only 15 are on firm order.
How is it even profitable for Tupolev, and how is it even a good idea for a commercial airline to fly these oddball planes ?
By comparison, Boeing delivered 482 737's (all version) in 2014
But there's also Ilyushin ..
The IL-96 is even more marginal. It's a long haul wide body similar to the 767.
14 have been made (all version) and 12 are stored.
I don't understand Russian airliners.

in other news, I am quite a fan of airline tycoon. But the Russian airliners were mostly funded by the state, so it didn't matter if they made Rubles.
For what it's worth, most Russian airlines have moved to Boeing and Airbus aircraft.

On the plus side, Sukhoi's Superjet 100 has 306 orders, including 38 from Western companies, with 48 delivered since 2011. So, maybe things are starting to turn a bit.

The regional jet market is a bit different, but good for them

They probably have to carry on on presidential orders. To keep up appearances, Russian pride... and so on. The bosses would probably have an "accident" if they just closed shop.

The only thing I hate about AT is that if don't buy CR, you don't go far.
I got fed up and bought 25$ of CR and made it to the first place.
Back to the subject, I know that, but I just don't understand why they are still in "production"

Are they offering Russian hookers, included in the First Class tickets?

I'm gonna show myself out.

Yes, a different animal. But still, Soviet/Russian airliners of any kind have never had anywhere near that level of acceptance.

The only reason to buy Russian is that your country is sanctioned by the USA and EU.

I was playing the standalone version before it went online. I like both versions, haven't played the online version in ages.
Not sure either. Lately I'm sure it's an attempt to remain relevant in the event of further sanctions.
